Whale Watching in Raja Ampat and the Ceram Sea

Cruise one of the most remote and pristine areas of natural beauty on the planet in Raja Ampat and the Ceram Sea. This exclusive area is like no other on Earth.

These uninhabited islands, tropical beaches and stunning coral reefs are a natural hotspot for numerous species of whales and dolphins. If you love nature, the ocean and adventure without compromising on luxury and comfort, then a phenomenal whale watching cruise on board El Aleph is an experience of a lifetime.

Cruising through this remote area of Indonesia will give you the opportunity to see several species of dolphins including spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, spotted dolphins and Fraser dolphins. In between watching pods racing alongside El Aleph and jumping in the bow stream you’ll be able to snorkel or scuba dive on some of South East Asia’s most pristine coral reefs. Located in the heart of the Coral Triangle this is one of the richest marine environments on Earth with extreme marine biodiversity and an unparalleled abundance of fish and corals.

El Aleph’s two smaller speedboats will be at your disposal to take you ashore to any of the numerous Robinson Crusoe reminiscent tropical islands. Enjoy feeling the sand between your toes and end the day with a beach barbeque under the stars.

El Aleph private charters mean that you and your friends, family and loved ones choose where you want to go, what you want to do and when you want to do it. Our attentive and discreet crew are there to ensure your cruise is exactly what you were hoping for and more.

As you sail through these tropical waters we’ll be looking out for breaching whales including blue whales, sperm whales, Bryde’s whales and even the rare and extremely shy, beaked Cuviers whale.  Our extensive experience in cruising these waters has led us to suspect that the Bryde’s whales which we regularly spot in the Damper Strait may even be a residential pod. Marine life is one of our passions and our cumulative hours at sea while studying and recording our sightings puts us at the forefront of discovery of some of these species which relatively little is known about. Many of our whale-watching cruises have been alongside whale expert Benjamin Kahn from Apex Environmental from whom we have learned species identification and whale and dolphin behavioural habits.

On board El Aleph you’ll be able to explore this exquisite region in absolute comfort. Our ensuite master cabin with hand carved teak wood fixtures and fittings offers stunning panoramic views and a private terrace. The other four spacious en-suit guest cabins are a generous 18 sq.m each. El Aleph also offers an en-suit nanny cabin for those travelling with staff.

An El Aleph cruise is the perfect way to relax, unwind and really “get away from it all”. You’ll find your cruise rejuvenating for both the mind and body. With endless opportunities to snorkel, kayak, swim, scuba dive and hike you certainly won’t miss out on being active. According to your preferences and requirements, our on board chef serves refined dishes based on fish, seafood, light meats with plenty of fresh vegetables and tropical fruits without additional salts, sugars or food agents or enhancers. Trained in exclusive 5 star international hotels in Bali, our chef’s flare and attention to detail means your meals will be what you would expect from a luxury resort. Sensitive stomachs or special dietary requirements can be easily catered for without compromising on taste and flavour.

Not only is the Ceram Sea a superb destination for whale and dolphin watching – there are also numerous species of “black fish” which are frequently spotted. Most commonly seen species include pilot whales, melon headed whales, occasional Risso’s dolphins and we’ve even had orca sightings along the way. There is nothing like the rush of adrenaline when you first spot one of these magnificent marine mammals at the surface. Sharing this experience with those closest to you will create memories that last a lifetime.
