Komodo Island Indonesia

komodo island indonesia

Komodo Island Indonesia is the jewel in the crown of the Komodo National Park. This remote and spectacularly beautiful part of the Indonesian archipelago is just two days sailing from Bali. The region is famous for its wildlife, both on land and in the sea. The Park consists of 29 arid islands with a total population of just 4,000. Komodo island teems with monkeys, water buffalo, and numerous tropical birds, and of course, the dragons!

Komodo Island Indonesia: Diving & Snorkeling

Underwater, the park is amazingly rich in marine life, making Komodo Island Indonesia one of the world’s top scuba diving destinations –  from easy, sheltered dives across pristine coral reefs, to the fierce currents and effusion of marine life of Batu Bolong.

Whilst there are standard boat charters widely available in Komodo, El Aleph offers this destination as part of wider voyages around the Savu Sea and Alor, or on to Bali. Spend a few days savouring this unique habitat, or much longer enjoying the amazing diving and snorkelling, lunar landscapes and Australasian fauna, far from the madding crowds.

Komodo Island & Dragons

Komodo and Rinca islands are perhaps best known for the Komodo dragon – the world’s largest land reptile, growing to three metres in length. A short trek will allow you to encounter the Dragon in its remote savannah habitat, or when they are on the beaches, we can approach to within just a few meters on our zodiacs. To see the dragons in action, there are also feeding stations, which ensure the dragons remain healthy, and the park rangers allow guests to witness these prehistoric creatures at lunchtime!

Trekking Komodo Island Indonesia

It’s not just Komodo Island that offers adventures on land. Within the Komodo Marine Park there are numerous islands that offer stunning views over the entire region and neighbouring islands for the intrepid visitors that trek to their peaks.

Our tenders are available at any time to take guests ashore – there are countless remote, white sand beaches and secluded coves that make ideal locations for picnic lunches or even dinner under the stars. Komodo Island Indonesia is also one of the unique places in the world where it is possible to step foot on ‘pink beaches’. These are a special phenomenon caused by coral fragments – it’s a magical sight!

There are also local villages to visit for those who wish to experience the local culture and traditions. The island children are extremely curious and welcoming to visitors with beaming smiles and attempts at practicing their English skills.
