USAT Liberty Wreck
REVIEWS
It is scuba and snorkeling site. I went with Bali Scuba, and I will do it again. It is a long drive from Denpasar to Tulaben where the wreck is, but worth every moment and effort. It is a shore entry dive and the wreck is between 5 and about 30m deep. With HEAPS of fish and marine life - tigerfish, nemos, trumpet fish, barracuda, angelfish and everything in between. Visibility 20m and beyond. No strong currents, it is like one massive aquarium...water temp today was 27°C. I went with no suit, just shorts and a rash shirt...

Fantastic dive spot. Tricky shore entry on the rocks, but not horrible. Just go slow. Fantastic sea life. Well worth the trip.

Amazing dive! First wreck dive and it was absolutely amazing. We went with Dive Concepts Tulamben. I can highly recommend their team. Ask for Gita for your Dive Master. The equipment was in great condition and the safety was second to none.

Dislaimer: My dives were done quite long ago, these are some pictures taken using compact camera/manual DSLR, plugged from my journal. I had done many dives in Liberty and around and almost every dive sites in Bali from Gilimanuk to Nusa Penida, including the less dived ones like Secret Bay and Puri Jati. Liberty was always a must-go for us. What is it good for? Almost everything I guess. It is good for snorkeling, beginner, and advance. You can do day and night dive. If you are taking pictures, you will have a big dilemma every morning about whether you would need macro or DSLR, but that is only the problem for manual long-time-ago camera. For smaller compact, the lens can be outside the casing or grmbl, for modern people, you might be using go pro or whatever that free you from this! So, back in my time, we needed to preset our lens since we could only fit the underwater housing suitable to those lens, and felt the pain of seeing others that couldn't be captured in pictures. In Liberty we saw: - Macro (term used for small stuff): frogfish, leaf fish, pigmy seahorse (pink and yellow), nudibranch, many many others - Big stuff: giant barracuda, napoleon wrasse, turtles. sharks, eagle rays, manta rays, mola-mola (unusual there), grouper - Bigger: school of jacks, school of humphead parrotfish (dawn dives) - Special: ship wreck, you can 'penetrate' without having cave diving specialty. Be careful, don't hurt the shipwreck, don't be irresponsible - Night dive: beautiful flash fish dancing I am not sure about now, but I love Liberty back then.

USAT Liberty was decent for diving, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. While the wreck itself is fascinating and there's plenty of marine life around, the visibility was a bit lower than I hoped for during my visit. The dive site can get crowded, which made it hard to enjoy at times. The staff at the dive shops were friendly and knowledgeable, but overall, I felt it could be better managed. Still worth a dive if you're in the area!
