Turtle Conservation Community Nipah Beach

The Turtle Conservation Community at Nipah Beach is a community organisation dedicated to turtle preservation and environmental sustainability. We had an unforgettable experience here. The conservation program is run by locals, offering a much more affordable alternative to similar experiences in Bali. The tour of the turtle incubation and nursery area is free but we gave a donation to support such a worthy cause. Not only do they care for and release baby turtles, but they also keep the beach immaculately clean. We were lucky to have Darwin as our snorkeling guide, who was super friendly and knowledgeable. We saw at least six turtles during our snorkel, and afterward, were invited to his nearby home for local fruits and pastries before returning to the beach for a sunset turtle release. The entire experience felt like a once-in-a-lifetime environmental and cultural opportunity. Highly recommend visiting and supporting this fantastic community owned and operated enterprise!

We became aware of the Turtle Conservation Community Nipah Beach as we were staying at the local Jeeva Klui resort and I was looking for something to do for a couple of hours on my wife’s birthday. After asking at reception it turned out a member of the housekeeping team was also a brilliant volunteer at the Conservation site. After meeting Aditya at the hotel, he couldn’t have been more helpful in arranging for us to release baby turtles rescued as eggs which I understand they do late afternoon when the weather and tide is safe to do so. The whole experience is a really magical one, made all the more special by the fact that it is local volunteers who have their heart in wildlife and a community feel. The rest of the beach was full of friendly faces (as the whole of Lombok is!) who were all too happy to talk to you about the great work being done. As I understand it, the team also offer snorkelling experiences (including go pro filming) which we would definitely have done if we had more time. Having already snorkelled with turtles at the south of the island we would have loved to have done it again in the Nipah area! I cannot thank Aditya enough for helping us create such a brilliant memory and wish him and the team all the very best preserving wildlife on this incredibly special island.

Please everyone go here!!! Darwin showed us all the spots where the big turtles were in the sea with equipment and then we released at 4pm! The cutest and most wholesome activity in Sengigi and they only ask for donations. You don’t need to pre book you can just turn up and the staff are more than up for your help, and offer lots of information on their charity :)

Life-changing experience at this sea turtle conservatory! Over 40,000 turtles have been saved to date. Mainly self funded by a group of locals there who run the conservatory. They're open for donations which funds will be used or utilised for the sea turtle's wellbeing. Nearby the beach offered breathtaking snorkeling and kayaking, spotting turtles and vibrant marine life. Inspiring story of founder's transformation from egg hunter to conservationist. A must-visit!

We visited here hoping to release a baby turtle. It’s small but functional and you can donate and release a turtle if the conditions are right. You can also see the areas where turtles have laid eggs on the beach (which are marked out & protected).
