The Monument of 1000 km of Anyer-Panarukan
REVIEWS
This is a monument adjacent to the main Banyuwangi-Probolingo Rd at Panurukan. The monument is meant to signify the end of the Anyer-Panurukan postweg Road that was build from 1810 to 1850 with the aim to improve connectivity for trade and so develop the interior of Java. Anyer is situated at the west near Mount krakatau, and of course, Panurukan is in the east. Some parts of the road are still known as the Jalan Daendels, after the person that supervised the construction. Although the road was a success, it also got a bad name because of forced labor. Anyway, this monument does not give a lot of info. It lacks information, it lacks a parking place and also there is no resto or cafetaria for refreshments. Then , as more monuments also this one is disputed. Is this the exact ending point, is a question that is answered in different ways.
